"He was a very willing and enthusiastic member of the team. He was a lovely person and he was particularly interested in the path because he was a Duntocher man.
"The path is something that has been greatly appreciated by the people of Duntocher because it's a short cut. Before, it was totally impassable."
Gil Paterson added: "This was a desperately sad day for Tom's family but gratifying that those responsible for the path took the instant decision to name it after Tom."
